The Weir

Wildlife centre and restaurant which sits sensitively in rural landscape.

Located at the end of Bude canal this new wildlife centre and restaurant provides a welcome rest for walkers and cyclists using the nearby cycle route. The building nestles into the side of a steep hill on the edge of a newly created lake. The building is clad using cedar weatherboard and has a low-profile zinc roof which gentle rises towards the views beyond.

The front elevation has a long stretch of full height windows that open onto a raised deck which cantilevers out over the lake. The design offers a contemporary solution that respects the sensitivity of the rural landscape.
